Dear Dr. Hynek:

Re the recent file I sent to you...documented file whereby I actually "controlled" the city of Cleveland, Ohio, with my mind...for a week. (Just as I had previously "controlled" an FAA radar installation here on this peninsula with my mind, also documented.)

I'd like to point out to you certain facts which would absolutely indicate that what happened to Cleveland, Ohio, could be no accident, nor any coincidence...not even precognition working. It had to be my mental attack.

First...remember, I sent you a specific list WELL BEFORE Cleveland had its week of horror. This list indicated the different, and many things I would DO to Cleveland.

Following which, most of the conditions I had set forth...actually happened to Cleveland. Now, the very VARIETY of things I'd listed...would, or should, I think, preclude "coincidence"...i.e., that the blinding heat, lightning attacks, nutty people phoning up City Hall, and so on...might just happen, as sort of a coincidence. One of my set conditions might have happened coincidentally, perhaps...but not all the things that happened!

I said I'd cause terrible heat...so Cleveland had heat so hot the sidewalks buckled and fell apart.

I said I'd cause lightning to attack...so lightning hit and set fire a city bus with a load of people on it, and lightning hit various people also.

I said I'd cause people to do strange things...so you saw the newsclip for yourself stating that many people called the City Hall, talking about hearing "strange voices" and "voices from UFO's" and being secret agents, etc.

I can do no better, even then these last two demonstrations, Radar and Cleveland. I said specifically what I was going to do...in advance...and did it. In Radar, I had government experts present, and worked on scientific apparatus. On Cleveland, you and the other scientists were notified well in advance...what I was going to do...before it happened to Cleveland.

Tell me, how much more could you want, in the way of absolute, concrete proof...that I am half-Si...that my mind has been altered to produce effects this world has never seen?

In closing...there is no limit...to what I can produce...with my powers. As easily as I can control a radar installation, I can control Cleveland, a huge city. As easily as I can control Cleveland...I could control a State. As easily as I could control a State, I could control a country...even a group of countries. I realize that sounds like a full-blown paranoid statement...but how many paranoids that you know...can produce actual, documented miracles to back up their "delusions of grandeur"?

Dear Dr. Hynek:

Today I had my heartiest laugh in a long while. I received your "letter", unsigned, scribbled along the margins of my last letter. Well, some initials are there...I suppose it was you writing.

You know...I always accord you the dignity...of a regular letter, such as this one.

At any rate, we now begin at a new point in time. First...please understand...and inform anyone who should know...that I do not want the Inquirer prize money. I withdrew from it. Why? Because your suggestion angered me. The suggestion that I have the S1's appear in person for you at a meeting, to be photographed. This perhaps has to be the most ridiculous suggestion of all time.

I do not tell the S1's procedure; they tell me procedure. Least of all will they allow any third parties, even Dr. Hynek, dictate rules and procedures to them. However, do not jump to any wrong conclusions at this point in the letter...they are going to give you a demonstration!

Before we get to that...I want to get to the part of your "letter" where you state (with relation to my past phenomena) "possibly a great case of precognition - but not necessarily cause and effect. How do you separate the two?"

It would seem obvious to me...that anyone, even a non-sophisticated highschool pupil...would be able to separate the two, given access to my files.

First of all...as Kinder pointed out in one of the Saga articles...how could I be simply precognitive...on now almost 400 cases and projects? Isn't this a training the "precos" just a bit?

You should be familiar with the Apollo shot, last one. I called you before it went up, and told you I would give the astronauts fits, and try to knock out the power and communications. Well, I sent you the full file on it. I did exactly as I said I would do. Furthermore, you noted all the "firsts" freakish things that happened, ever...on space flights. How would my "simple precog" pick that up?

On the radar demonstration...which you have had ample opportunity to check out...along with the full file on it I sent you...I produced 25-50 UFO forms on the radar screen, plus innumerable strange strobes or spokes...which shouldn't have been on there, according to the radar expert with me. And I GOT THE STROBES ON PURPOSE, TELLING HIM THAT I WOULD TRY TO DO SO BY AFFECTING A POWERSURGE! How on earth...could you link up precognition with an upped mental power surge to produce multiple-strobes on a radar screen? Furthermore, I told the expert to watch the TV and papers...that my power, mental power, could possibly knock down planes and ships in the week or two following. FOUR MILITARY PLANES THEN CRASHED IN THE BAY AREA WITHIN FIVE DAYS. Precognition? Fooey. You are saying that when I asked him to get me to a radar screen...that I KNEW 25-50 UFO's would appear on it, precognitively; that multiple strobes would appear on it (that had no business being on there...tremendous power coming from our VERY LOCATION.); and finally, that I knew precognitively that, after my appearance at the radar installation...four planes would crash in five days! How ridiculous can you get?

(At this point let me say that I consider myself the greatest psychic in the entire history of the world...not on the basis of opinion, but on the basis of performance...so that I allow myself the leeway of being eccentric enough to speak straight and honestly, without fear of University retaliation, or U.S. Government retaliation, or anything else.)

In the Cleveland file...which I sent you...how do you explain that I outlined in advance...lightning attacks...and got lightning attacks! Does lightning, then, go along with the heat?

I had thought lightning went with a different kind of weather. Also, if you will check with the weather people in Cleveland...then look at that list I sent you in advance...you will see that I stated "60-90 mile-per-hour winds" (on the May 30 letter to you). Cleveland had such winds...I just wasn't able to cover enough xeroxing cost to include it. There were power blackouts there...as I stipulated there would be, and all kinds of electrical disturbances...as I stipulated there would be.

How you could make a precog case...out of this complicated, sophisticated psi-force attack on Cleveland? You could argue precog perhaps on one item, or two...heat and power blackouts...but how precog could you get...to go on and predict lightning attacks, wind storms, people acting crazily, and so forth (as outlined in the newspaper clips)? That one single point...my telling you in advance that I'd cause people to act crazily...then it actually happening, with many calls to City Hall...well, you read the newsclip...people acting absolutely nuttily. This would fit no precognition pattern I've ever heard of!

Do this...make an offer of a million dollars to any psychic in the world...who could precognitively state that people would act crazily (and report voices from UFO's; secret agents; etc., as from my file newsclip) in any certain city in the world (I stipulated Cleveland, remember?)...within 90 days...and see if you ever have to pay the million. I assure you, it is quite safe. Tell them also just for good measure to predict a lightning attack in that certain city; plus wind storms; plus side-walk buckling heat...to go along with and qualify the "people acting crazily" part. Ha!

I have already told you...the Si's gave me photographs of them. If you do not believe the photos you have, that I sent you...that is no concern of mine. They are quite real; are fact. So why do you need another photograph? I tell you, I really resented your wording on this: "you could win it (the prize money) easily if at the time of our next panel meeting you could cause a UFO apparition sufficiently strong and close to be photographed..."

Why, certainly, Dr. Hynek...and I could win the prize money quite easily if I produced an actual UFO in your meeting room...or perhaps made it snow next July 4th in Buenos Aires, Argentina...

You see, Dr. Hynek...I'm peculiar, and I guess a little touched. I consider my brains and knowledge and experience...on a par with many PhD's and Dr.'s...at the very least. And of course, if this were in fact true...then you would treat me with a bit more dignity, and respect. I regret that I have no degree, and a Dr. before my name...so that you could comfortably communicate with me as you would another scientist, or even at least let's say...a member of Mensa, which I am.

One more point on "how do you separate the two". Years ago...when I wrote CIA a letter and told them that "Nature" had told me to write that it would affect the electromagnetic condition of the South Pole...and get it into the newspapers in such a way that it would PROVE my connection with it, "Nature", and its reality. Afterward...a UFO appeared over two South Pole scientific expeditions, affected their EM apparatus, and hovered for 45 minutes for pictures to be taken. Now, how in hell could I have pulled THAT out of a precognitive hat? Call Ed Ames, in Brewer, Maine...I told him I'd communicate with a UFO and ask it to appear within two weeks over Brewer-Bangor, and be reported in the newspapers to validate it. It appeared within a week, was seen and reported on the front page of the Brewer newspapers. To call such a happening "precognition" would be absurd!

Enough. Now to get back to what I am going to do. (Incidentally...I was going to show you TWO miracles, some time back...but couldn't get you or Dr. Pogel by phone...so I went ahead, being too angered to write...and confused Spassky's mind. Then I decided to switch things around for the second miracle...and instead of aiming PK at the Russian athletes, I aimed at the U.S. athletes. The results were fantastic. Of course I have no documentation on this...but what difference does it make anyway? I can't get anywhere with the ton of documentation that I do have. And I might say that the Olympics are

perfect for psi-force experimentation! Because everything is measured in time and distance...and can be so easily checked, result-wise. Perhaps some of my other contacts...who are not on your own "precog" hangup...recognized my now-familiar psi-force attack pattern...in the Olympic foul-ups.

All right. The SI's were quite angry (if they could be said to have that emotion)... at your stipulation that they appear "in person" at your meeting to have a nice snapshot made, Just as I was angry. So they will GIVE you a demonstration. Of their own choosing (which is the only way they operate anyway). The NATO WAR GAMES open on Thursday, Sept. 14. I quote the newspaper: "Armed forces of 11 North Atlantic allies open the biggest combined land, sea and air maneuvers in their peacetime history next Thursday. The war games continued until Sept. 28."

So the SI's tell me to inform you...that they will attack these war exercises...with various means at their command...to knock down airplanes and copters; sink ships; and cause innumerable freakish things to happen and occur (as in the Apollo flight, except this time there will be more personnel involved). They will try to interfere with radar, with EM equipment, with radio and communications.

And they will do it in your honor...and any other scientists who cannot tell precog from cause-and-effect.

In summing up...I disassociate myself from the Inquirer thing, completely, as a result of your today's communication...and the SI's are going to give you, and the NATO forces, a lesson which will be long remembered!

# NATO War Games Open Thursday

## 'Strong Exercise' Biggest Ever

BRUSSELS (AP) -- Armed forces of 11 North Atlantic allies open the biggest combined land, sea and air maneuvers in their peacetime history next Thursday. The war games continue until Sept. 28.

About 64,000 men, 700 planes, 300 warships, and 60 merchant vessels are taking part. There will be exercises on both sides of the Atlantic but mainly along Europe's western coast from Portugal to Norway's far north.

Called "Strong Express," the exercise is one in a long series of maneuvers designed to give national forces experience in working together -- and to show Moscow that it can be done.

Leaders of the alliance say their solidarity over 23 years has been a major element in preventing Soviet aggression. Convinced that the alliance does not get enough credit, they have invited about 200 newsmen to view the games.

Reporters from Communist countries have not been asked, but military spokesman said they would not be barred from news conferences at headquarters in the remote Norwegian village of Bardufoss.

The "Shield 72" maneuvers of the Warsaw Pact will probably coincide with "Strong Express."

The Czechoslovak Communist Party newspaper Rude Pravo said the maneuvers were to "help improve the defense capability" of the Warsaw Pact. It did not say when "Shield 72" will start.

Soviet troops were expected to make up a great part of the units in "Shield 72." Independent-minded Romania probably will send only staff officers.

"Strong Express" comes more than two years after the big Soviet exercise "Okean" showed that Moscow's growing naval power was now great enough to assert itself in the Atlantic as well as the Mediterranean. "Okean" brought together 80 ships at its peak.

Gen. H.F. Zeiner Gundersen, Norway's army chief, expects Soviet naval vessels and trawlers to appear during the allied maneuvers. This has become common.

They will be trying to keep an eye on a whole panoply of allied naval strength, from carriers to hovercraft. The allies will practice landings, submarine and antisubmarine warfare, the protection of convoys, the laying of mines and countermine measures. Planes will pretend to attack from carriers and will patrol from land bases.

Attention will focus on Norway's far north, an increasingly important strategic area. A line from Greenland to Iceland to Scotland is the forward limit of American defense.

The Russians have made their northern fleet the most important of the four they maintain. It includes the largest number of their Y-class strategic submarines, each armed with 16 nuclear missiles that have a range estimated at 1,750 miles.

"Strong Express" will include a landing in the Tromsoe area of northern Norway by 3,000 U.S., British, and Dutch Marines. They will fight an "invading" force played by Norwegian troops. Actually, the potential invaders are the Soviet forces around Murmansk, 500 miles to the east.

If the Marines fight through the Norwegian force, they will link up with an Allied Command Europe mobile force, one of two small integrated units in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Land, sea, and air groups will participate from the United States, Britain, Canada, Denmark, West Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Portugal.

SAIGON (AP) -- The New-News, largest cruiser a-al, steamed out of the Viet-amese War zone Sunday and headed for the Philippines with the bodies of 19 sailors killed in the worst U.S. naval disaster this year.

Ten other men in her crew were wounded by the explosion in an 8-inch gun turret which racked the 21,000-ton warship off the northern sector of South Vietnam shortly after midnight. Many of her 1,300 crewmen were shaken from their sleep by the blast.

The U.S. Navy, which termed the explosion accidental, announced that it had started an investigation to determine the cause.

The Navy in Saigon said the exact extent of damage had not been determined. But if just one of the big shells exploded damage could have been extensive.

Apparently the explosion was confined to the gun turret, one of three main batteries each housing three rapid-fire, 8-inch, 55-caliber guns.

Repair crews will assess the damage at the naval base in Subic Bay, the Philippines. The bodies of the dead will be sent from there to their families.

The 7th Fleet in Saigon did not identify the victims, saying this would be done by the Pentagon after their relatives had been notified.

Spokesmen said first reports indicated that nine of the wounded were not in critical condition and were treated in the cruiser's own 28-bed hospital. A 10th man, who was critical was evacuated to Da Nang, then later transferred by plane to an intensive care ward at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines.

The explosion occurred at 1 a.m. Saigon time (1 p.m. EDT Saturday) while the 700-foot-long cruiser was on a combat mission, firing at North Vietnamese positions in heavily contested Quang Tri Province just below the Demilitarized zone. Her position at the time was 13 miles north-northeast of Quang Tri city, four miles from the mouth of the Cua Viet River.

In strikes during the 24 hours preceding the accident, the Navy said, the cruiser's big guns, which have a range of 15 miles, destroyed four North Vietnamese emplacements and damaged five others two miles west of Quang Tri city.

Asked if there were any possibility North Vietnamese fire triggered the explosion, a 7th Fleet spokesman said: "The information we have indicates it was an internal explosion." A brief Navy statement termed it an accident.

The cruiser is commanded by Capt. Walter F. Zartman.

The ship is named after the port of Newport News, where she was built and commissioned in 1949.

Although based in Norfolk, and the permanent flag ship of the U. S. 2nd Fleet operating off the U.S. East Coast, the Newport News was rushed to Vietnam waters last spring during a major naval and air buildup to counter North Vietnam's invasion of the South.

The Newport News has ranged up and down the Vietnam coast, operating on both sides of the Demilitarized Zone, and led major naval raids on the North Vietnamese port of Haiphong on May 11 during her first combat mission since returning and again on Aug. 27. The latter raid was directed by Vice Adm. James L. Holloway 3rd, commander of the 7th Fleet, who was aboard the Newport News. The ship's extensive communications make her an ideal floating command post.

The ship was deployed to Vietnam twice previously, in 1967 and 1969, the first combat of her career. The mission then was part of "Operation Sea Dragon," the 7th Fleet's efforts to slow the flow of war materials into South Vietnam, and also to provide gunfire support for allied troops operating below the DMZ.

In addition to the main battery of nine 8-inch guns, the Newport News also carries secondary and antiaircraft batteries of 12 dual-purpose, 5-inch, 38-caliber guns, and four 3-inch, 50-caliber rapid fire guns. Also aboard are two rocket batteries.

The Newport News can move in excess of 33 knots at full power and, the Navy says, is a city within herself, capable of generating 120,000 horsepower from four boilers, distilling 60,000 gallons of water a day and producing enough electricity to light a city of 40,000 people.

The vessel is the last of 18 cruisers built by Newport News shipbuilders between 1902 and 1949.

## Navy Probes Blast That Killed 19

The Newport News was the biggest ship on the U.S. Navy's gun line in Southeast Asia.

The spokesman said ordnance experts will board the warship on arrival at Subic, 90 miles northwest of Manila, to determine whether the vessel is safe for repairs.

The explosion occurred while the 17,000-ton Newport News was firing in support of South Vietnamese troops in Quang Tri Province. The explosion wrecked the middle of the cruiser's three forward turrets, each of which house three 8-inch guns.

It was the worst such accident aboard a U.S. Navy ship in Indochina waters since fire swept through the aircraft carrier Forrestal on July 29, 1967, killing 134 crewmen.

First, read Larry Bonko's column, attached hereto, xerox'd. Then, read over my letter to you.

Then consider.

The giant tankers collided the day after Bonko was here and took my taped statement of intent...that I would cause ships to collide, and attack the military exercises with my mind. That's one.

Then the Newport News carrier, off Viet Nam...had a freak accident...and is limping home, badly bent. That's two.

Then a brand new (to Viet Nam) F111 airplane vanished. It was not shot down...it just plain disappeared. This is a plane loaded with communications gear, so that it should be impossible for it to vanish, right? Now...you can argue that lots of planes have gone down in Viet Nam. Oh sure. Lots of copters and Phantoms. A Phantom is worth what? A million? A bit more, perhaps? Well, an F111 is a giant plane, worth fifteen million! That's three.

Yesterday, in quick order...a nuclear sub, Tullibee, collided with a ship not far from here...just off Cape Hatteras. That's four.

I can state unequivocally that the Si's (UFO's) have brought all of this about...and observe...tankers, carrier, giant military plane, nuclear sub. A little something for everybody.

I'll bet the Si's chewed up the NATO exercises, too...but evidently there's been a security lid clamped tight on it...not a word has come out. But...the military knows.

So the Si's are still determined to make their demonstration a good one. No matter where they have to strike, geographically.

Call all this coincidence if you want to...I do not care. Call it precognition if you want to...I do not care. What it is...is a demonstration. I know it, if you do not. and best of all...I called it in advance!

SAIGON (AP) -- U.S. F111 fighter-bomber units completed their move from Nevada to Thailand Thursday, and the U.S. Command reported the swing-wing jets' first missions over North Vietnam after a six-day layoff.

Although most of two squadrons of F111s from Nellis Air Force Base had reached Takhli Air Base, north of Bangkok, by Wednesday, the command reported only two strikes against the North overnight.

The command acknowledged publicly for the first time that the trouble-plagued, $15 million jets had been withdrawn from combat after only four missions. One of the first two planes to go out vanished, with both crewmen missing.

An official U.S. memorandum for correspondents said that because of the loss of the plane Sept. 28 "a thorough systems recheck was accomplished during the period Sept. 29-Oct. 3 to insure that the systems were functioning properly in the Southeast Asian environment. The systems were proved to be fully operational and the aircraft were rescheduled for combat missions."

Several F111 strikes scheduled for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning were canceled because of bad weather associated with Typhoon Lorna, the command claimed. Weather also was blamed for cancellation of two missions on the first day of F111 operations.

The F111s are billed as all-weather fighter-bombers. During the Tuesday-Wednesday period, less sophisticated aircraft, such

Dear Dr. Hynek:

On August 31, 1972, I informed you that I would, in order to give you a demonstration of what I could do with my mind...and my UFO helpers...attack ships and planes and subs of the NATO forces, holding an exercise at about that time.

After writing you, I communicated with the UFO's and explained, as best I could, that you needed a demonstration because you were thinking that I just might be using precognition...and not actually causing things to happen. I instructed them to attack ships, aircraft carriers, planes and subs.

Next I worked out my own attack plan, using my own mind and psi-force principles.

Since then...all hell has broken loose. The enclosed file is self-explanatory.

The NATO exercise folded after some days...but the psi-force (and Si's) have kept going...mysterious disappearances of two giant ($16 million) F-111 planes; aircraft carrier mishaps; etc.

Now, if you want to call this "coincidence", you can, of course. Or precog.

But in order to better educate you about PK Men and the Si's...I am enclosing something else. Another file, dating back to 1966. I DID THE VERY SAME THING THEN! With the same devastating results! It is completely documented, as you can see.

At that time I was corresponding heavily with "George Clark" of Central Intelligence Agency, and Roland Swank (Box 562, Paoli, Pennsylvania) who was the head of a 30-man aerospace group following my work with analysis and computers. Both of these responsible people...plus many others, of course...were notified in advance in 1966 that I would attack ships, planes and carriers and subs WITH MY MIND and with the Si's help, and when it then came to pass...I documented it from the newspapers. It is all in here.

Of course, I assume that you are very knowledgeable about how ESP works...how psi-force works. Time and distance mean absolutely nothing to it; nor does mass mean anything, either, when properly used. I.e., I can take an idea...to cause world-wide earthquakes or make things happen to aircraft carriers and planes and subs world-wide...and instantly (no time lag) the psi-force is out there, all over the world...causing earthquakes or preparing to cause them after some preliminary preparation...or instantly out there, all over the world, on planes, subs, carriers, etc., causing things to happen to them, or preparing to cause it to happen to them after some preliminary preparation. Naturally, I am not limited to just earthquakes or military sea forces.

The ordinary reaction to all of this is, naturally, horror, in the event it is real (it is). However, calmer minds, and more scientific minds...should be able to realize that my mental breakthrough is literally world-shaking, since it is unheard of up til now (the phenomena I've produced); could conceivably signal a breakthrough in the human race, up to a new plateau level of the human mind; and the other-dimensional powers that my mind is USING, in cause and effect manner, documented...simply has to be the greatest leap forward for mankind since mankind somehow progressed from cavemen and stone age to what mankind has become. I.e., Primitive man, to present man, to what I have become.

# Over 100 Fought on Carrier

HONOLULU (AP) -- More than 100 men were involved in the racial fight which left 46 men injured aboard the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk off Vietnam last week, the Navy said Monday.

About 5,000 men were aboard the ship at the time of the incident.

The series of altercations between black and white crew members stemmed from an initial fight in the ship's dining hall, a Pacific Fleet spokesman said. The fighting occurred in various parts of the ship during the night and early morning hours last Thursday and Friday.

There were no further disturbances, and the incident did not interrupt the carrier's operations, the spokesman said.

Three of the crewmen were seriously injured and were flown to Clark Air Force Base Hospital in the Philippines. All are expected to recover. The other injured men were treated aboard ship and returned to duty.

No charges have been filed and no one has been placed under confinement, but an investigation is continuing, the spokesman said.

Capt. Frank Haak, chief of staff of Carrier Division 5, who was aboard the Kitty Hawk at the time of the incident, was appointed to investigate. A three-man team from Pacific Fleet headquarters flew from Hawaii to the carrier to review the incident and prepare a preliminary report to the fleet commander.

Earlier, the Navy said the fighting was broken up by a large number of black and white crew members.

The carrier had been on station in the Gulf of Tonkin only one day when the incident occurred.

# Navy Charges 25 in Riot

HONOLULU (UPI) -- The Navy announced charges Sunday against 25 blacks aboard the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk for assault and rioting connected with racial disturbances Oct. 12 and 13 while the ship conducted air strikes against North Vietnam.

In a brief statement, the commander in chief of the Pacific Fleet said "charges have been preferred against 25 persons" in connection with the race riot which injured 46 men.

The Navy said that all those charged were black, and between the ages of 18 and 21. Twenty-five were charged with assault or rioting, all but four were accused of both crimes. They will be court-martialed aboard the Kitty Hawk, operating in "Yankee Station" off North Vietnam.

The men have not been confined, a spokesman said.

Although the Navy would not comment, a Pearl Harbor source said the incident involved a black attack on whites aboard the ship which resulted in a series of all-night roving brawls that lasted until the following morning.

A Navy spokesman said the trouble began in the ship's mess hall.

All those charged face severe penalties if convicted.

Another racial incident occurred the same week, aboard the fleet oiler Hassayampa in Subic Bay, Philippines. Four whites were injured in that melee, and eleven blacks jailed.

The Navy said investigation is still continuing, and said there had been no further racial violence aboard any Pacific Fleet ships.

# Crash of jet plane CARRIER on Midway kills 4

SAIGON (AP) -- The second major accident aboard a U.S. Navy ship off the coast of Vietnam in less than a month killed four Americans Tuesday night, injured 22 and wrecked nine jet fighter-bombers worth $30 million. Another sailor was reported missing, presumably overboard.

On the South Vietnamese battlefields, Communist forces rained scores of rockets into the Da Nang air base, an adjoining village, a provincial capital 15 miles south of Da Nang and a district town 40 miles northwest of Saigon. An American civilian and 17 South Vietnamese were killed, and two Americans and 92 Vietnamese were wounded.

U.S. B52 bombers resumed strikes against supply caches in the southern half of North Vietnam after a 24-hour diversion to targets in South Vietnam. But strikes by U.S. fighter-bombers still were curtailed above the 20th parallel as a show of good will to foster peace negotiations.

The naval accident occurred aboard the carrier Midway. The landing gear of an A6 Intruder collapsed as it returned from a mission, and the jet ran wild, plowing into parked planes and crewmen on the bow of the ship and starting a small fire.

The 65,000-ton Midway had just returned from shore leave in the Philippines. Spokesmen said the carrier remained on the line, and bombing missions were scheduled today. Ten of the injured men were flown to a U.S. Army hospital in Da Nang, the rest were treated aboard ship.

The other recent naval accident occurred on Oct. 1 aboard the cruiser Newport News. An explosion ripped through a gun turret as it was firing, killing 20 crewmen and injuring 37.

The United States reduced its fighter-bomber strikes against North Vietnam again Tuesday and confined them to the southern panhandle below the 20th parallel in a sort of a partial bombing halt aimed at improving the atmosphere for peace negotiations, informed sources said today.

The Air Force's big B52 bombers resumed attacks on supply caches in the panhandle after a 24-hour diversion to targets in South Vietnam. But the U.S. Command said the smaller fighter-bombers flew only about 100 strikes, all below the 20th parallel, which is 75 miles south of Hanoi.

# Saratoga Fire Kills 3

WASHINGTON (AP)--A fire broke out aboard the attack aircraft carrier Saratoga in Singapore Harbor Sunday and three Navy men died of smoke inhalation.

The Pacific Fleet Command at Pearl Harbor said the names of the dead men were being withheld pending notification of their next of kin.

A Navy spokesman said six crewmen were being treated for minor injuries and six others were treated and returned to duty.

The fire did not impair the operational capabilities of the 60,000-ton carrier, whose home base is Mayport, Fla., the spokesman said.

A number of civilian workers from Singapore aboard the vessel at the time continued their work and none were injured, the Navy said.

Smoke poured into the air ventilation system and filled a crew quarters area where two of the sailors died of smoke inhalation before they could escape, U.S. Embassy spokesman Robert Nichols said.

Nichols said the No. 2 main machine room, where the fire broke out, was sealed from the rest of the ship but the smoke was sucked into ship's ventilation

The 1,039-foot long carrier, which has a crew of 4,900 men, also suffered smoke and water damage, but Capt. James S. Sanderson reported that the operational capability had "not been impaired," the Navy spokesman said.

Nichols said there was a general call to quarter when the fire broke out at 12:30 p.m. Sunday (midnight EDT Saturday) but the two sailors were overcome before they could evacuate their quarters.

He said the quarters where the men died was one deck directly above the fire.

The vessel arrived in Singapore Friday to give crewmen routine shore leave. Saratoga seamen dressed in civilian clothes had been frequenting several hotels and restaurants in Singapore as U.S. sailors have done over the years since the Vietnam War began.

The carrier left her home port of Mayport, Fla., in April for Vietnam and was in Singapore on "a routine port visit," the Navy said. Singapore is a regular port of call for the U.S. Navy.

Nichols said it was not known if the fire would affect the vessel's sailing schedule. The U.S. Navy still did not have a fixed sailing date for the Saratoga at the time of the fire, he said.

The Saratoga was followed to the Pacific by another Atlantic Fleet carrier, the Norfolk-based America.

There was no word Sunday on when either ship will be coming home.

No outside assistance was needed in fighting the fire, which was quickly controlled by the ship's crew. It caused minor smoke and water damage to the ship and work was under way to restore various pieces of equipment, including electrical wiring, the spokesman said.

The Saratoga, a Forrestal-class attack aircraft carrier, was completed in 1956 at a cost of more than $209 million.

base by shelling the Communists, two waves of B52 bombers hit near Duc Co and dozens of jet fighter-bombers joined in, but were unable to beat back the North Vietnamese assault.

The U.S. command said Thursday that three Americans were killed in Indochina War action last week. Six other Americans died in the crash of a warplane on board the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk, but their deaths were termed "nonhostile."

The Saigon high command said 504 of its soldiers were killed last week, while Communist deaths were estimated to be 2,081.

Over North Vietnam Wednesday, American aircraft flew "more than 140" airstrikes with jet fighter-bombers, and added another four waves of B52s. The jet strikes were the heaviest since Oct. 24, when raids on the north were restricted to below the 20th parallel.

Navy spokesmen said a pilot dropped the Nap Bang railroad bridge, 105 miles south of Hanoi, with a single television-guided "smart-bomb" in the Wednesday raids, "limiting" rail movement toward South Vietnam.

It is interesting that the govt. is evidently trying to put a hush-hush on this aircraft carrier mishap series now. I went through all the newspapers around Norfolk, including the Philadelphia paper... and this tiny mention is all there was on the Kitty Hawk carrier mishap! It wasn't even on TV.

How far...can the strange arm of "coincidence" stretch? Psi-force reached out for the NATA forces on the water...carriers, subs, planes, etc....and has never yet stopped...and this file shows the results!

# 130 Carrier Men Air Grievances

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (UPI) -- The 130 disgruntled sailors put ashore by the carrier Constellation after refusing to obey orders at sea met with officers Monday to discuss their grievances.

In an action believed to be unprecedented in Navy history, the crewmen, mostly seamen and seamen apprentices unhappy with their duty assignments, were given the weekend on liberty after the huge carrier returned to port Saturday from a training cruise.

"They will be able to return to the Constellation once their grievances have been examined," said Capt. J. D. Ward, skipper of the carrier which has a crew of 5,000 men.

The Connie returned to San Diego Harbor again Monday, this time with an A7 Corsair attack jet dangling over her side. The plane skidded off the deck while landing Sunday night, but was held above the water by landing arrest cables. The pilot wasn't hurt.

The plane was removed at North Island Naval Air Station by crane. The Constellation was expected to return to sea within a day to resume round-the-clock combat preparation exercises off the Southern California coast.

TO MY SIX SCIENTISTS.......... can it be co-incidence that here is yet ANOTHER aircraft carrier mishap? Can it be co-incidence that this long string of aircraft carrier, ship and plane mishaps... began first with my hitting the Chesapeake Bay area with psi-force (and the Forrestal caught fire)... then I sent forth psi-force to attack and harass NATO forces; aircraft carriers, planes, subs... and when that exercise was over, I let the psi-force keep on going... AND SINCE THAT TIME ALL THESE THINGS HAVE HAPPENED. If someone argues that perhaps humans are sabotaging... I will remind them of the Si's making Tom Woodeshick run out onto the field and smash the Cowboy in the face; that the Si's caused a "change of heart" in the Selma, Alabama, judge... changed his thinking around. To harass carriers, planes and subs... the Si's will use personnel on those vehicles... as well as fire and other "poltergeist" phenomena. Always remember... when psi-force, or the Si's, works to attack (or help) any target... it can use a thousand different approaches... its intelligence is unlimited.

SAIGON (AP) -- A fire below the flight deck on the carrier America, the fourth 7th Fleet accident in seven weeks, briefly curtailed air strike operations but caused no injuries, spokesmen said Monday.

The blaze broke out in what was described as a relatively inaccessible catapult room during operations off the coast of Vietnam Sunday. It was quickly extinguished.

The 7th Fleet ruled out sabotage, explaining that spontaneous combustion in insulation around steam lines apparently caused the fire.

The 80,000-ton carrier, home based in Norfolk, Va., continued operations after the fire was controlled. Spokesmen said an initial investigation indicated that the damage was being repaired. The America carries about 70 planes and a crew of 5,000.

On Oct. 29, a fire broke out aboard the carrier Saratoga while on port leave in Singapore. Three sailors died of smoke inhalation and 12 were injured.

Five days earlier, on Oct. 24, the landing gear of a Navy jet collapsed as it touched down on the carrier Midway and the plane plowed into parked aircraft and flight personnel, killing five and injuring 21.

The first in the series of accidents was on the heavy cruiser Newport News on Oct. 1. An explosion ripped through a gun turret, killing 20 crewmen and injuring 37.

Scattered ground action was reported in the region around Saigon, where South Vietnamese intelligence reports have said a renewed effort by Communist-led forces to seize hamlets, cut roads and to show the flag was expected to begin Monday.

South Vietnamese infantrymen reported killing 14 North Vietnamese in a fight near Phu Hoa, 15 miles north of Saigon, while suffering no casualties of their own.

Two government soldiers were killed and 38 wounded in fighting that flared after they found a North Vietnamese mortar position during a sweep six miles east of Ben Cat, 23 miles north of Saigon.

In the air, the U.S. Command reported that American fighter-bombers flew only 40 strikes in the southern panhandle of North Vietnam because of bad weather.

# Corsair Crashes, Pilot Saved

SAIGON (UPI) --A Navy A7 Corsair fighter-bomber crashed into the South China Sea after an abortive landing attempt aboard an aircraft carrier, the U.S. command said Friday. It was the eighth American aircraft lost in the past four days.

The pilot bailed out and was rescued, the command said. The jet was returning from a bombing raid over the southern part of North Vietnam.

A U.S. Command spokesman said the Navy Corsair that crashed late Thursday will probably be listed as an "operational" loss instead of a combat loss. Although the plane was returning from a mission over North Vietnam, it was not damaged by Communist fire.

The spokesman said the plane's tail hit the carrier deck too soon and the pilot took off again immediately. He tried to fly the craft to a land base at Da Nang, but lost control and had to eject.

My name is Albert Heddema, and I live in Holland. I came to Cape Charles, Virginia, to be trained by Ted Owens in certain methods of the mind.

While in Cape Charles, I am staying at the Northhampton Hotel, Room No. 11.

Last night I woke up with the very strong feeling that Ted Owens was in my room, training me. I could hear him making the slight noises that he makes when he smokes a cigar during my daytime training. I was wide awake...heard him talking to me, training me...heard the slight noise of the cigar-smoking that he makes at his office. I repeat, I was not asleep and dreaming this. The room was dark and I looked around, but could not see anything because of the darkness. But I could hear the voice of Ted Owens, and so I knew that it was him. I was awake, now. I could hear the aluminum blinds at the windows rattling. Also I could hear Ted Owens talking to me. But my door was locked; I was alone in the hotel room; and this was in the middle of the night.

Today, the next day, I informed Mr. Owens of this, and he asked that I get it onto paper for his files...that such phenomena is very important.

I swear that, to the best of my knowledge, this is a true and accurate statement.

# Panel agrees, advanced civilization in universe

BOSTON -- A panel of four leading scientists and a theologian agreed that highly advanced civilizations certainly flourish elsewhere in the universe, but they clashed sharply over whether it was prudent to try to establish contact with them.

The astronomer, physicist and theologian on the panel all welcomed the prospect of communicating with other intelligent beings. But the biologist was fearful of what harm superior beings might inflict on mankind, while the anthropologist was worried about what our warlike planet would do to them.

The question of whether intelligent life exists beyond the tiny planet earth is nearly as old as man's fertile imagination. The discovery of such extraterrestrial life is likely to have awesome implications, not only for science but also for philosophy and theology and possibly for our very survival.

These moral and philosophical issues remain unresolved, of course, but they have taken on new urgency in recent years with the emergence of radio telescopes powerful enough to exchange messages with distant solar systems.

"The question is not so much 'if' as 'where' and 'when' -- ultimate contact seems virtually inevitable," said Prof. Richard Berendzen, the moderator, in introducing the symposium on "Life Beyond Earth and the Human Mind" at Boston University.

The discussion was co-sponsored by the university and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Contact is inevitable because even with present-day technology it would be possible to detect our civilization from anywhere in our 250-billion-star galaxy despite the enormous distances, said Carl E. Sagan of Cornell, an astronomer and "exobiologist," a rapidly proliferating species of experts seeking evidence for life beyond.

He argues that the prospect is so exhilarating that governments should appropriate money to begin the long, arduous radio search of the heavens. Indeed, he contends that the earth has already announced its presence since superior technologies may be able to detect our high-frequency radar and military messages. "This may explain why nobody has been here," he added.

Not so sanguine about intergalactic communication was Prof. George Wald of Harvard, a Nobel prize-winning biologist who is an expert on vision. "I can conceive of no nightmare as terrifying as establishing such contact with a superior civilization," he said.

Wald saw this as just another example of what he perceived as the misuse of science.

You would think at a krooshial time like this, Browns owner Art Modell would not tempt a Martian assault or test the ire of planet Kripton. I mean aren't the crunching Pittsburgh Steelers, alone, enough to handle on Sunday?

Here are OUR Browns, right in the smack of the Central Division race, when we had expected to be watering the grass over the grave. And what I was proud of most -- I thought -- was OUR Browns got this far completely legit.

You see, King Arthur Modell has tested the very universe or, at least, our very galaxy. But nobody had the slightest notion at the time. It all began back in late-September when Modell opened this letter:

"DEAR MR. MODELL . . . My name is Ted Owens, the PK Man. I am a member of Mensa. What I can do is control pro football games, among other things, incredible as it may seem I have, by now, controlled Cleveland to seven straight losses. . . Like I did the Eagles some years ago.

"I am used to being a winner myself. Have a 92% accuracy rating. Will keep our understanding in the strictest confidence; not a word will leak out. . . Ted Owens (PK Man)" His address was Cape Charles, Va.

THE BROWNS OFFICE receives thousands of loopie letters containing threats, promises, such suggestions as the theory that tight-fitting uniforms are slowing the offense. Some notes contain road maps out of town for coach Skorich. And side-splitting laughter rocked the Ivory Tower B at the Stadium, the day PK Man's letter arrived.

But our visit to the library yesterday uncovered the recent book, "Occult America" by John Godwin. And right on page 154 is PK Man Owens fully documented. Owens claims to be an earth representative of the Sis-meaning space intelligences.

OWENS, IT SAYS, has a reputation for writing letters to such lofty places as NASA, CIA and to presidents Johnson and Nixon, many predicting disasters which later occurred.

In one dispatch to the CIA, Oct. 26, 1965, he sent a warning letter that the Sis were "in a fury" and unless the Gemini Six launch be cancelled, an earth catastrophe would be unleashed within 10 days. The rocket was launched and an unexplained power failure blacked out much of seven states a few days later.

PK Man stands for "psychokineses" -- the alleged ability to move objects by mental power alone with influences from outer space.

WELL, NOBODY HAS THROWN a net on Owens who has documented proof of his powers. He is in his 50's, described as a "massive man" with the forearms of a wrestler, who chews a cigar instead of smoking it. He has a wife and daughter and is employed in a routine office job.

He has been making the papers around Virginia Beach, Va. since he demonstrated his "ability" to cause thunderstorms -- with or without rain.

But just the other day, Ted PK Man Owens, not having heard from Modell, sent an indignant one-sentence chilling note: "Please consider the offer withdrawn." So get ready for more psi-force bad things.

They aren't laughing in Modell tower now, I'll bet.

CAPETOWN.--A slow but discernible exodus has started from South Africa of whites who say they can no longer stomach the country's racist, authoritarian rule and its social and cultural backwardness.

For some time students and other young people have been leaving the country, never to return, except for holidays or visits to parents. But now there is a new phenomenon--the emigration of couples whose children have completed their education and are off their hands. These middle-aged whites say they want to live the last years of their lives in a "free" society.

The last time South Africa experienced anything like this was after the Sharpeville shootings in 1960, although nothing like the numbers that left the country then are leaving it now.

THE IMPORTANCE of the present exodus is to be found not so much in the number of people leaving as in their caliber. Among them are some of the country's most talented citizens.

Almost all are financially secure. They expect to suffer financially and in other ways by uprooting themselves. Each has his own reasons for pulling out. Generally they feel there is more to life than living in a doom-laden atmosphere waiting for things to go wrong.

This is their shared fear: They see no hope for peaceful change in South Africa. This point of view has been articulated most clearly by an Afrikaner, Professor Jan Loubser, who went to Canada in 1964, became a Canadian citizen, but returned to South Africa last January to take up the chair of sociology at Cape Town University.

HE IS GOING BACK to Canada, because he does not see South Africa solving her problems peacefully.

The start of the present exodus of whites can be traced back to the police-student clash in Cape Town early in June, when baton-wielding policemen chased men and women students into St. George's Cathedral and hauled them out. The shock waves that rippled out from that incident caused a number of whites to decide the time had come to pack up and get out.

There is unmistakable tension in South Africa today. After 24 years in office, the ruling Nationalist Party is seeing the breakdown of many of its apartheid policies and fragmentation is setting in among its followers -- some want to modify apartheid to salvage it, but others are demanding that it be tightened.

IT IS THE FEAR that this latter group, the right-wingers or verkramptes, will win the day that is unsettling many liberal-minded whites.

It is not only the racist, authoritarian nature of South African society that many whites, not all of them liberals, find suffocating. They object also in the way Premeir John Vorster's Afrikaner government, representing only one section of the white population, foists its way of life on all other sections of the population.

This is a narrow, Calvinist way of life, which reflects itself in rigid censorship of films and books, opposition to organized Sunday sport, one of the dullest and most propagandistic radio services in the Western world, and generally a killjoy attitude to what it calls the "imported" permissive society.

# Panel agrees, advanced civilization in universe

BOSTON -- A panel of four leading scientists and a theologian agreed that highly advanced civilizations certainly flourish elsewhere in the universe, but they clashed sharply over whether it was prudent to try to establish contact with them.

The astronomer, physicist and theologian on the panel all welcomed the prospect of communicating with other intelligent beings. But the biologist was fearful of what harm superior beings might inflict on mankind, while the anthropologist was worried about what our warlike planet would do to them.

The question of whether intelligent life exists beyond the tiny planet earth is nearly as old as man's fertile imagination. The discovery of such extraterrestrial life is likely to have awesome implications, not only for science but also for philosophy and theology and possibly for our very survival.

These moral and philosophical issues remain unresolved, of course, but they have taken on new urgency in recent years with the emergence of radio telescopes powerful enough to exchange messages with distant solar systems.

"The question is not so much 'if' as 'where' and 'when' -- ultimate contact seems virtually inevitable," said Prof. Richard Berendzen, the moderator, in introducing the symposium on "Life Beyond Earth and the Human Mind" at Boston University.

The discussion was co-sponsored by the university and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Contact is inevitable because even with present-day technology it would be possible to detect our civilization from anywhere in our 250-billion-star galaxy despite the enormous distances, said Carl E. Sagan of Cornell, an astronomer and "exobiologist," a rapidly proliferating species of experts seeking evidence for life beyond.

He argues that the prospect is so exhilarating that governments should appropriate money to begin the long, arduous radio search of the heavens. Indeed, he contends that the earth has already announced its presence since superior technologies may be able to detect our high-frequency radar and military messages. "This may explain why nobody has been here," he added.

Not so sanguine about intergalactic communication was Prof. George Wald of Harvard, a Nobel prize-winning biologist who is an expert on vision. "I can conceive of no nightmare as terrifying as establishing such contact with a superior civilization," he said.

Wald saw this as just another example of what he perceived as the misuse of science.

Mr. Modell:

PS...I am sure that you, being a rich man, feel that every man has his price. As far as you are concerned...I have no price. Never, in the future, will you be able to buy me off, should you want to. I am not for sale to you now at any price.

A friend sent me a news story...informing me that my letter to you, offering my absolutely unique services to help your team, the Browns...made "side-splitting laughter rock your Ivory Tower B at the Cleveland Stadium."

The last football owner who laughed at me...was Jerry Wolman, of the Phila. Eagles, some years ago. He has since gone bankrupt, and lost his team...as well as everything else. If you want to see what happens when I really am irked with a team, and team owner...take a good long look at the current Phila. Eagles team. Then, you will perhaps recall, I appeared on national TV with Carroll Rosenbloom about a year ago. Carroll was smarter than Wolman...because he knows what I can do. But he would not hire me...and take a good long look at the Baltimore Colts this season. See what has happened to them. At least, Carroll was smart enough to get rid of the Colts for the Rams (not really smart; it won't help him any; I will also keep the Rams out of winning the Super Bowl.)

To make matters worse, and compound the doom coming your team's way...you published my confidential letter to you.

I would suggest, first off...that you check with Mr. Dan Coughlin, sports, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, who has seen some of my credentials. Also, I am enclosing a newsclip from the Chattanooga Times, by Buck Johnson, sportswriter there...who also was privy to a few of my credentials. On the newsstands and in the bookstores now is a book, "Predictions for 1973" by Glenn McWane, paperback. Represented in the book are the nation's leading psychics. I am one of them. Then if you will see April, 1971, Saga magazine...you will read that a top scientist has evaluated me as having "perhaps the most powerful human mind on earth, and probably the world's greatest psychic." (Currently six scientists are studying my work; three of them are internationally known, and all three of these "big ones" came to me, I didn't go to them. Which is some indication of the effectiveness of my miraculous work.)

Now, just because the Browns managed to salvage this last game by a last-second field goal...do not let it get you overconfident. Don't let your side-splitting laughter run away with you. After Joe McGinniss, then sports writer and columnist for the Phila. Inquirer, first did a column on me, stating that I would "take apart the Phila. Eagles, and clobber Jerry Wolman and Joe Kuharich"...the Eagles still won some games. But from that point on, they steadily went downhill...deteriorated. It took me several years to finish the job on them. To utterly wreck them...and break Wolman financially, and get Kuharich retired to some cow pasture somewhere. (Joe McGinniss later wrote the best-seller, "The Selling of a President.")

You may be the "regal chief" of the Browns...and have millions...but here is what I am going to do. I am going to take the Cleveland Browns apart, as time goes by. Might take me two-three years to do a complete job. But watch what happens from now on. Before this hassle, I was just going to eliminate you as superbowl winners, and try to stop you from getting there. Now...I am just going to eliminate the Browns. This year I told the Cowboys, KC Chiefs, Atlanta Falcons...in advance...that I would not allow them to get to and win the Superbowl. I am doing just fine; they are not. You have four games left; I'll try to make you lose at least three of them. I do not pretend to win every game; the opposing team has to be able to cash in on the chances I give it...and they do not always do that.

Mr. Modell...you now have the most formidable psychic enemy in the world...PK Man.
