Prepares for
Va. Flooding

ALEXANDRIA (AP) - Eastern area headquarters of the American Red Cross said its chapters in Southwestern Virginia, Western North Carolina, and Southeastern West Virginia have been alerted to be prepared for possible flash flooding from 6 p.m. Wednesday until noon today.
The flood watch covered 12 Virginia counties as Tropical Storm Becky moved northward with rainfall up to 6 inches possible, according to the Weather Bureau.
The Virginia counties warned included Wise, Dickenson, Buchanan, Tazewell, Bland, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski, Wythe, Floyd, Carroll, and Grayson.
A Red Cross spokesman said chapter workers and national disaster staffs are standing by to render any assistance that may be necessary.
Persons in the affected counties living in low-lying areas or along streams were advised to keep tuned to local radio or television stations for further reports. In event of serious flooding, the spokesman said, instructions will be broadcast for evacuations and places of shelters.

As the dying remnants of Tropical Storm Becky move northward, Tidewater can expect possibly heavy at times, and tonight.
The high temperature today is to be near 80 and the low tonight in the 60s. Friday is to be cloudy, warm, and humid with a chance of thundershowers. The high may reach the upper 80s.
The rain chances are 70 per cent today and 50 per cent tonight.
The Weather Bureau issued a flash-flood watch for most of Southwestern Virginia Wednesday evening. Tornadoes were reported in the Macon and Augusta, Ga., areas Wednesday.

As the dying remnants of Trop- ical Storm Becky moves north- ward, Tidewater can expect rain, possibly heavy at times, today and tonight.

The rain chances are 70 per cent today and 50 per cent to- night.
The Weather Bureau issued a flash-flood watch for most of Southwestern Virginia Wednes- day evening. Tornadoes were re- ported in the Macon and Augus- ta, Ga., areas, spawned by the storm system, which is to reach northern Alabama this afternoon.
By Friday morning the remnants are to be over western Ohio.
A stationary front extended from just north of Becky's rem- nants at the Georgia-Alabama border, northeastward to the Vir- ginia-North Carolina border, then offshore. This front is weakening fast and should dissipate today, weathermen said.
In Norfolk Wednesday the low was 67, high 77, and the mean 72, which was 7 below normal. Early mornings showers left .07 of an inch of rain and evening showers .05 at Norfolk Airport.
